Thread: Edge switches to Universal Audio digital amps?

Edge switches to Universal Audio digital amps?

Good article about the amp sims for the Sphere shows.

    https://www.guitarworld.com/news/u2-...l-audio-pedals

I don't have any opinions but I think UA is really starting to figure out their market and marketing a little better now. LUNA is also available in a free version now too.

Anyone tried any of these pedals? Ruby, Woodrow, Dream?

    Thanks for that

I've seen some of the videos on youtube and I found his tones to be "thin". Don't know if it has something to do with his new rig of if there's another reason (my ears ? the audio on the videos ? My computer ?)

    Hi all. Long time!

Why would he use these when he could use the Axe models? So strange.

Guitar World-> I'm using UA Ruby, Dream and Woodrow amp pedals with some Fractal Axe-Fx units handling additional amp emulation and FX.

I was wondering the same thing. I was reading up on a thread on the fractal forum and from what i understand the Edge is still using Fractal Axe-FX 2's in his rack. For whatever reason it doesnt appear he has upgraded to the Axe FX 3. So perhaps the sound he gets from the Ruby is more to his liking than the models in the Axe FX2. Seeing as the sounds have changed from the Axe 2 to 3, i'd guess he could easily get that sound if he upgraded. However this is a guy that is still using old rack effects from the 80's.....Korg A3 etc.

I am still using the AXE2 and I feel like the sounds are great. I tried a 3 when they first came out but returned it. Maybe the software improvements since release are worth it, but the II has been good for me. Also, I started with the original standard AxeFX and the II was an obvious sonic improvement from the original.
I could see the Edge not seeing the advantage of the upgrade, even if it is free from Fractal, if the units he has are already doing what he wants them to do. Also, I seem to remember that the point of using the Fractal stuff was to create a mini rig that would be adequate for smaller "one off" gigs. The axeII is smaller and if it is doing what the Edge wants, I could seem him sticking with it.

My guess is what others have already said, that they gave the Edge a bunch of free stuff and maybe some endorsement money and he put one piece that he liked in his giant rig and did a reporting piece on how he is using their kit now.

there is also the other aspect...

replacing the actual amps with a plug in replacement... probably easy for these pedals to sit directly where the amps did, no other re-work on the rack to do. Dial them in and leave. I think the only other option to them was to move to AFX3 and that would have involved re-programming the whole rack... simple, keep it simple

Very good point. Either way I'm surprised he decided to ditch the amps.
