Met Dallas yesterday!!!

We were at LAX waiting for a flight to JFK, and he was next to us in Starbucks. Couldn't help myself, went over and said hi to him. Such a nice guy, he talked to me for 10 mins, asked me where I was from and met my wife. We chatted about guitars etc, he told me he was with Edge the previous day in LA at his house. He said he was busy trying to come up with new guitar sounds. He asked me about MY equipment, just a super nice guy. He said that sometimes Edge is very impatient with him if he gets something wrong during a show! Told me he moves between homes in Hermosa Beach, Colorado and a house in Dublin that Edge got for him, but he doesn't enjoy the weather there! Then he gave me a pick from his wallet. He was on our flight to JFK and we saw him at baggage claim with a box that looked like it had some rack unit in it. Still giddy about meeting him and can't believe he was so friendly. I work everyday with people who have way bigger egos, but he was as down to earth as could be.

I just watched from the sky down and there's a bit where Bono asks for the "sh**" mix to be turned down, no-one bats an eyelid and then Dallas shrugs and confesses it was his mix they were listening to. I felt really sorry for him. Although I'd swap his shoes for mine any day. :)

It's not Dallas that mixed it, just a mix made for him or Edge where the guitar is higher in the mix.

Congrats on the meet up - what I like is that he´s working on new sounds with The Edge. New sounds means new riffs and hooks = New Songs.

really nice story, it must been great to meet him, he is a part of the band and for some comments i have seen around he´s such a nice guy which makes him a better human being, did you take some pics?

here's some photos, i'm a 45 year old man who was so excited to speak with him that i couldnt really think straight when were talking, which is totally ridiculous i realize!!! i've been replaying the encounter in my mind and kicking myself that i didnt ask a couple more specific questions about the effect settings in a particular song or two etc :-) he did say they were aware of the axe-fx bootleg, the one where edge was testing it out with his sound engineer, saying it was impressive but not quite there for edge yet. he also made a comment, after i mentioned kinmans to him, that edge tried noiseless pickups once and that he didnt like them, that they interfered with something or other. i told him i thought he had the best job in the world and he laughed. again, super nice guy and completely humble. he must get nuts like us approaching him a lot i would think.

Exactly! There's probably a big difference between the dream encounter with Dallas or Edge where they have a few hours to spare and don't mind being interrogated over a few beers and the more realistic chance 10 minute meeting at an airport or similar. Had I actually started rattling off a bunch of detailed questions, I don't think he would have hung around as long as he did :-)
