    Axe FX/AX8 Q9 AC30 model

I posted this in the fractal forum but maybe, given that here all try to get Edge sound from their fractal units, could also help me.

I have an AX8 and I've noticed in Q9 (more with Q9.03 and Q9.04) that I struggle to get a cleaner sound from this model.

I’ve done some clips playing with input drive and input trim. Input drive goes: 1, 1.5, 2, 2.5, 3, 3.5, 4 and 5. I’m playing with my ‘09 Tokai LS125F with 010s strings and diMarzio 36th anniversary pickups. I’ve attached the preset I’m using (make sure you select the Y state of the cab block, as is the one I’ve used for the clips and the other points to a user one).

I've seen some of the U2 presets in this forum or the axe-change and most of them have the drive at 4 or higher and sound cleaner than my AX8. I wonder If I'm doing anything wrong.

    Thanks in advance

I don't really understand your question.

I gave a try at your preset. (conversion with fractool for Axe FX II)
The cab is empty in my case. no IR.
I took one I have in my user cab, and I had no problem.
The level is good, pretty clean sound.
Very normal for the setting of the amp bloc + SDD.

Thanks Manu. With my guitars I find that the sound has too drive.

The cab I used was one of the new factory Celestion IRs, the 2x12” blue mix (F185). I've updated the preset in the first post.

Do you find it cleaner than my clips?

I don't think your clips sound essentially "different" from how I would expect an LP into an AC30 to sound - it should distort some. A strat at the same settings should put you in "edge of breakup" territory. Try flipping to the neck pup and dialing in the intro to One (back off the volume on the guitar), then flip back to the bridge and see what you get.

Your pickups are probably higher output than those in the Edge's old guitars - you may need to turn down the guitar volume a bit to get a similar sound.

If you're finding it too boomy, try turning up the low cut in the cab block. Edge likes his speakers old and worn, so they've naturally lost some low and high end.

Thanks, I'm not used to real AC30s. I've always played Fender amps (my main amp is a 6G16 vibroverb clone). So I don't know when they start to drive, but I find all the clips I usually hear cleaner than mines.

I'll record something with my strat.

I forgot to mention I gave it a try with my Statocaster.

    As I said, nothing strange.
The volume with Axe FX II utility VU-meter is about 0 db, it is pretty clean also with the SDD block engaged.

with the Les paul, you should reduce the amp block level a few db, or reduce your guitar volume, or reduce your main input in your AX8
(Les paul has of course hotter pickups as a stratocaster)

Thanks a lot for testing it! BTW, I've tried your SDD3000 preamp settings: sound great!
