Thread: New explorer signature?????

  1. #11
Although this was a fake, I have a friend who works at Gibson he hasn't heard of any Edge signature Explorer or Les Paul yet, but he'll do some digging and let me know.
The Edge is god, Bonos just a decoy!

Funny... I remember freaking out when I first read that too. Was so excited.... Gotta say... wouldn't be a bad idea for an Edge Artist Series Explorer.. or Les Paul for that matter.... Part of me wants to see this happen... and part of me hopes it doesn't cause: how many guitars can a fellow buy with limited funds?

It does look like Gibson has released a 60th anniversary of the 1958 explorer for this new cycle of guitars. Even though it’s not an “Edge signature” it’s still a fairly affordable Explorer.

I think thats the one they had earlier also, but now with burstbuckers. Seems better than those hardrock/metal pu's it came with before!! Not bad, but way to hot for u2 stuff. I wonder how burstbucker 2 and 3 would do, maybe the 3 at the bridge is also a bit to hot.

The main thing seems to be the Natural finish in the Standard range, and with alnico Burstbuckers instead of hot ceramic 490/510 (or similar, I always forget the numbers). I like Burstbuckers personally, but I never tried them in a real amp or in a Explorer. Some probably would ask why they didn't use gold hardware for it. The slim taper neck would be the biggest difference in the features, when you combine that with the fact that it's Torrefied Grenadillo fretboard. I've never heard of that before, but they mention here that it's very similar to reosewood.

Nice guitar but in a Edge case I would Change the PUs to golden burstbucker pro or other A5 humbuckers.
