Guitar used for the studio recording

Doesn't sound completely like a strat. I can't put my finger on it.. Could it be the Gretsch, Rick or 355? He was using a AE2000 around the JT times that he maybe used for the studio recording. It's always been a mystery.

In the rattle and Hun movie you can see the White falcon and Rick in background of van dimens land

    Hi!

I'm pretty sure that Edge is playing on an acoutic guitar for the intro.... Ok, I'm out ^^

Seriously, I would say that Edge used an Humbucker guitar for the studio version. Nothing sure about that but when I hear those clips.... It's hard for me to think to another guitar type:

    - OMAGH version (played on a Gretsch) : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CGNynovFj5Y
Listen to the solo part. It's very close to the original IMO and, for me, the best version for the solo part!! CHILLS every time I listen to this one! Too much emotion

    - Mick's Humbucker/Gretsch clips : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=atAJribS5v4

    - U2John316's clip : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EdXKbBAnsT8
This Shimmer is so beautiful!! Far better than anyone else (better than Edge's one too). Listen to the part after ("When all I want is you) and the solo part of this clip.

There will never be ONE answer to your question but there are some elements to think about like these ones

    Hope it helps!

    What interesting links!

The more I hear the Gretsch the more I'm convinced it is.. my ears aren't good for guitars so i'd love to read more thoughts from people here.
The studio recording has a chime to it which is almost Rick like. It's like a Gretsch crossed with a Rick!

The Dec 2017 BBC version really sounds to me like he used the Gretsch!

He definitely uses the White Falcon:

I have some screencaps of the BBC performance and his switches with arrows. I know had his rewired from stereo to mono. I've managed to try out a white falcon and I couldn't make up my mine between the switches at the bottom or middle.
The bottom is too trebbly and the middle is too woody. Micks clip above with the three guitars is the closest i've ever herad adn the Gretsch has the swtich down
I'm not sure on what selections he used for the recordings so wondering if anyone who has a Gretsch has an opinion?
